Official Rules

Eligibility: The Bake-Off is open to Avon Lake residents only. Proof of residency may be required.

Entry Fee: No registration fee is required.

Age Groups: Contestants must select one age group upon registration:

Youth Division (ages 13 and under)

Adult Division
4. Categories & Entry Limits: Contestants may enter one (1) entry per category and may enter multiple categories. Categories include:

Pies
-
Cakes/Cupcakes
-
Cookies
-
Bread
Entry Quantity Requirements:

Pies, cakes, and bread must be submitted as one (1) full item.

Cookies and cupcakes must be submitted as one (1) dozen items.
5. Submission: All baked goods must be delivered to Avon Lake Public Library at 9:00am on June 13.
6. Judging: Judging will take place from 10:30-11:30am on June 13.
7. Announcement of Winners: Winners will be announced at 12:00pm (noon). Contestants do not need to be present to win.
8. Judging Criteria: All entries will be judged using the same scoring criteria:

Taste/Flavor
-
Appearance/Presentation
-
Execution/Technique
-
Creativity/Overall Appeal
Entries will be scored numerically. Youth entries will be judged based on age-appropriate skill and execution.
9. Category Awards: First (1st), second (2nd), and third (3rd) place ribbons will be awarded in each category and each age group.
10. Overall Grand-Prize Winners: One (1) Overall Grand-Prize Winner will be selected from each age group (two total winners).

Overall winners will be chosen from the first-place category winners in each age group.

The entry with the highest total score across all categories will be named Overall Grand-Prize Winner.

Each Overall Grand-Prize Winner will receive $250.
11. Original Recipes: All entries must be homemade from original recipes. Boxed or pre-made mixes are not permitted.
12. Food Safety, Presentation, and Leftovers:

Entries must be submitted on disposable plates or containers: items will not be returned.

Please ensure all baked goods are prepared in a safe and sanitary manner.

Any leftover baked goods may be offered to the public in exchange for a donation, with proceeds benefiting the Avon Lake Historical Society.
